Max-Diff is particularly useful for political research.

Max Diff (a.k.a. Best-Worst or Maximum Difference Scaling)

Max Diff modelling allows us to produce a ratio scale from a list of attributes or issues. This means we can calculate the order and strength of preference.

Max Diff is particularly useful for:

  • identifying the most important product attributes from a long list
  • understanding political and social preferences
  • group decision making – it’s like a turbocharged form of preferential voting
